Helping Children with Disabilities Communicate - In Honor of Haley Amanda Hale
Haley Hale lives in rural Guilford County with her parents, William and Phyllis Hale. Haley has cerebral palsy. We represented Haley in a lawsuit relating to a severe brain injury she suffered at birth.
Since a young age, Haley has received valuable medical care at the Amos Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital affiliated with the Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Her parents describe the warm and caring attention she has received there.
After the completion of Haley’s case, the Kirby & Holt Foundation and Haley’s attorney, Mark Holt, made donations to Amos Cottage to purchase augmentative communication devices to be used in the Augmentative Communication and Assistive Learning Clinic at Amos Cottage.
This equipment, provided in Haley’s honor, helps children with disabilities in communicating basic needs, interacting socially and participating in educational settings. The devices resemble laptop computers and involve expanded keyboards, touch screens, switches and early literacy software. The equipment is used to evaluate children’s needs and train children and their parents.
