Jon-Michael Dewitt Ogburn, son of Tracey and Darien Ogburn and older brother of Savana Lea Ogburn, was born and died on the same day. Our firm represented Jon-Michael’s estate and his parents in a medical malpractice case related to his death.
After learning that Jon-Michael's life would be tragically cut short, Tracey and Darien in the midst of their grief made a generous gift of life to others. They decided to donate Jon-Michael’s heart valves for potential transplantation and research through the Carolina Organ Procurement Association, a non-profit organization promoting and facilitating organ donation. The organization since has changed its name to Carolina Donor Services.
Since the conclusion of their case, the Kirby & Holt Foundation and their attorney, Mark Holt, have made donations to two causes important to the Ogburns. They have provided gifts to the Ogburns’ church, Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, in Lilburn, Georgia, where the Ogburns moved after Jon-Michael's death. The donation serves the young children’s ministry in memory of Jon-Michael.
The foundation and Mark also have made donations to Carolina Donor Services to establish a fund in Jon-Michael’s memory to promote and facilitate organ donation throughout North Carolina and to educate the public and medical professionals about the importance of organ and tissue donation. We hope through this fund that Jon-Michael’s life and his memory will continue to help bring life to others.
